Understanding 9/11
This reel from 1930 is possibly the first film shot by Wallace Kelly (1910-1988) and documents his train trip from Kentucky to Cincinnati to New York City, with scenes of Times Square at night, the Statute of Liberty, elevated trains and city streets, and a family outing with Percy Johnson, the president of Chemical Bank.
Kelly, a newspaperman from Lebanon, Kentucky, was also an accomplished photographer, painter, and writer. He began shooting film in 1929 and continued until the 1950s. His film "Our Day" was named to the National Film Registry in 2007.
This reel was preserved by the Center for Home Movies with funds from the National Film Preservation Foundation.

When I saw the curved tracks and large station, it appeared to me to be the Queensboro Plaza station intact (half was torn down in the 1940's) I wasn't sure until a few seconds later, they passed the Grand Avenue statiion. If I am not mistaken, that is today's 30 Aveneu (Grand Avenue) station on the N train, 4 stops after Queensboro Plaza. Astoria Queens.

At 8:10 the theater marquis shows Hell's Angels which IMDB says wasn't released until Nov 15 1930.
The end of the film shows a Christmas tree cutting and Christmas scenes. The beginning of the film has leaves on the trees so maybe it was shot in the fall of 1930, with the last 10 min shot in December 1930.

Needed some editing. A little too dark at times. Still, historically interesting to watch. Enjoyed the dogs at the outing.
